The report will entail an analysis of the impact of technology on how healthcare services are delivered. Similarly, it will provide a detailed explanation of the impact of technology on employee performance, organizational structure, and management planning on healthcare sectors. I have chosen to address this topic because of the ever-increasing usage and changing nature of technology. I would like to provide a training program to my audience that includes my classmates. The healthcare sector is a critical area for every human being and with the emergence of advanced technology; we need to analyze how the services are being affected. We are living in the world that encompasses sophisticated technology, and it would be important to analyze how it affects the performance of the employees, the structure of the health care organization and its management planning.
The America Lung Association is an organization that is working on saving the lives of individuals by improving their lung health and prevents lung diseases (American Lung Association, n.d). Similarly, the organization provides lung health education, research on lung diseases, support programs, services, and advocacy. It has a vision of ensuring people live in a world that is free from lung diseases. Technological innovations in the healthcare sector are essential to the health of the people and improve their quality of life. The American Lung Association adopted electronic health record system, and this resulted in significant savings in health care costs (American Lung Association, n.d). Similarly, it improved the health and safety of the patients. On the same note, healthcare facilities use the system to keep patients’ files in databases, and this makes it possible for one for one to access them from anywhere in the organization.
Technological innovation is not only a time saver, but it plays a significant role in data coordination and management (Carol Huston, 2013). Besides, it has opened the door to the use of non-invasive procedures. With the emergence of numerous methods of imaging, technicians and physicians can examine the anatomy of the patient without employing invasive procedures to form a diagnosis (Carol Huston, 2013). In addition, better instruments and advanced technology allows for minimally invasive surgeries.
Currently, the organization is facing the challenge of the rising healthcare costs due to the need of using advanced technologies. Advances in the treatment of lung cancer, asthma, influenza, and pneumonia are driving the healthcare costs up. Similarly, funding medical research is accelerating health expenditure. With the need to provide better services to patients, the American Lung Association is facing the challenge of balancing the healthcare costs with the quality and access to services delivered. New technologies provide new opportunities that result in quality services, but the organization is finding it hard to reduce the pressure of increased spending on technological utilization.
New technologies improve the performance of employees in health care sector. Communications technology such as emails, instant messaging and social media help employees to communicate and get feedback on various issues hence improving their ability to perform tasks (Kabene, 2010). Moreover, it helps to automate processes hence reducing employees’ workload. Technology improves management planning in an organization. It allows for easy access and share of data through communication networks. Managers in the American Lung Association can use tools such as video conferencing and internet forums as platforms to share same data and conduct a joint planning action.
The emergence of new technologies has impacted the organizational structure of American Lung Association. The organization is on the verge of delivering supporters with exemplary customer experience. The existence of online platforms and campaigns has created complicated communication experience. Therefore, the organization is facing a challenge of optimizing the existing technological tools while maintaining its initiatives, capabilities and goals. Technology can create and eliminate positions within the organization (Kabene, 2010). For instance, with the introduction of electronic filing system, the American Lung Association is no longer in need of many file clerks. The organization only needs the department that will contain technicians that will maintain and grow the computer network.
The audience should be able to understand the impact of technology on healthcare services that include improving employees’ performance, changing the organizational structure and improving its management planning. After the training program, the audience must be able to employ technology in their various operations as healthcare practitioners. The organization is facing the challenge of rising cost of healthcare services and embracing new technology. The training program provides a vivid explanation and understanding of the challenges. The organization will benefit from the training program since it offers an insight into the challenges the organization is facing hence the audience can come up with solutions that will help to offset the challenges.
