Darwinism is a significant topic in the American Society due to its effects. Social Darwinism, Darwinism, and eugenics affected immigration in the United States and the lives of Americans in the 1900s. Darwinism is an evolution belief which states that human beings evolved from species through the process of natural selection. Additionally, Darwinism theory does not believe that it is God who created the universe and all humankind. Social Darwinism thinks that natural selection leads to the formation of human beings and that humans are different from each other where some are superior while others are inferior. Social Darwinism stipulates that survival for the fittest helps in the formation of human beings and their survival for the fittest justifies the social injustices that do exist in the world. On the other hand, Eugenics is a form of breeding that is controlled to come up with necessary traits. Eugenics, Social Darwinism, and Darwinism were common in the United States of America in the 1900s where there was the classification of races resulting to strong opposition from Christians and worsening of the experience of the immigrants in America.
Darwinism and Eugenics had an impact on immigration policies in America. Darwinism theory made changes to policies and laws about immigration and racism in the United States. For instance, Social Darwinism leads to the legislation of policies which restricted the migration of Chinese laborers to America. Additionally, Darwinism and eugenics brought changes to the lives and experiences of the immigrants with intentions of enhancing their lives in America.
The popularity and the acceptance of Social Darwinism in America lead to the classification of people into superiors and inferiors. The theory made people believe that white races are superior compared to other races due to their genetic success. There was the segregation of non-white Americans due to their inferiority as per Darwinism theory. Besides, there was the classification of various people into different groups by Darwinism to control them. The inferior who were the non-whites were many, and the superiors in America did actions which were against them since they were not financially stable to acquire more. There was the mistreatment of lower class people through the justification of Social Darwinism.
The Social Darwinism theory supported the idea that human races are biologically inferior and superior and thus a justification for segregating and treating human beings differently. Authorization and racism were common, and there was the application of weak ethical principles to the inferior in the social class as stipulated in the theory of Darwinism. Social Darwinism was influential in the practice of racism more particularly in employment opportunities where the superior got good jobs while the superiors got poorly paying jobs. Social Darwinism played a role in ensuring that the rich are rich while the poor retained their status quo. Also, Social Darwinism believed in surviving for the fittest hence governments should not help the poor in the society.
Fundamentalist Christians are Protestants in the United States who aimed at changing traditional Christian teachings to accommodate emerging issues in the social and natural sciences like the evolution theory. Christians had a strong opposition to Darwinism theory and the problems that surrounds it like its criticism on the Biblical teachings on creation. Christians had robust beliefs concerning Darwinism theory and its stand. Christian politicians in the United States, contributed to the passing of laws and policies to eliminate Darwinism. For example, there was the restriction of Darwinism teachings in schools in some states and emphasis on Christianity to enable generations to disregard Darwinism teachings.
