Workplace Safety

The article was a study to determine the roles people and situations play in workplace safety performance. The hypothesis was safety motivation and knowledge is related to safety performance behaviors, psychological safety climate and group safety climate (Christian et al.., 2009)

In answering the research question, the researchers used secondary data. Peer reviewed articles about the predictors of occupational safety outcomes and performance. The articles were then independently assessed and determined whether they had reported any precedent of work place safety. A Meta –analytic procedure was used to yield estimates to be used in the analysis. Data was then analysed using the path analysis techniques.

The results showed that safety climate has a positive relationship with safety knowledge and both of the factors are positively related to safety performance. This means that safety performance increases as safety climate and knowledge improves. If one of these factors is not in a good condition, safety performance is compromised. The study also observed that safety climate is highly related to safety performance as compared to safety compliance. This tends to suggest that compliance does not guarantee safety as climate does. The study concluded that safety motivation and knowledge is related to safety performance behaviors, psychological safety climate and group safety climate thus accepting the null hypothesis (Christian et al.., 2009)

In my view, the study was thorough in answering and testing the hypothesis.  A lot of secondary data was analysed using legitimate methods. The results also support the conclusion made to all standards. In addition, data is well presented and tabulated.
