Past experiences may be among the primary reasons why women commit crimes as adults. These experiences may make women commit crimes whenever they are triggered by a similar event to what happened in the past. Therefore the reasons why women commit crimes might be a vast range and some may continue to commit the crimes because they find satisfaction in it and may not be feeling any guilt after committing the crimes(Derwin, 2012). It comes in especially when they are not caught or arrested for the acts of crimes they have committed. Another reason that cannot be ignored is the fact that they might be committing crimes for survival in life and this applies to women who have lived in poverty and suffering which forces them to think that their only way to having a livelihood is through committing crimes.

A real-life experience that is related to why women commit crimes is when a woman is triggered by a past event that interfered with her psychological stability like watching a sibling or parent being murdered(J. & H., 1997). Whenever they come across an event or place or even someone who resembles the events of the day the crime was committed they could end up doing exactly what happened on that day to whoever is present at the scene due to post-traumatic stress disorder.

A question that could be asked in this case is, why do women commit crimes?

When crimes are committed, evidence may be found to show that the person who committed the crime is guilty but what takes a lot to find out is why a crime was committed, and this is why the use of a holistic approach in solving crimes is essential (J. & H., 1997). This holistic approach involves investigating the psychosocial status of the offender, the life events, and behavioral changes that took place in the person’s life.

A question that could be asked here is, how important is a holistic approach to explaining female crime?

Life course theory which is one of the holistic approaches used in analyzing female crimes has proven to be the most reliable since women are at risk of experiencing a lot of changes in their life course right from childhood. These changes and experiences might be responsible for the crimes committed in their future lives since they might trigger a lot of mixed reactions to similar events taking place in their lives (Derwin, 2012). Event like sexual abuse, physical abuse as well as social alienation are considerable contributors to female crime since they never go away throughout their lives. It is therefore essential to study a person’s life course theory to understand them and why they committed a particular crime.

A question that could be asked in this case is, how critical is life course theory as a holistic approach to analyzing female crimes?
