Susan Glaspell is one of the most renowned American feminine playwright, journalist and actress in the American history.  The play “Trifles”, for instance, is an intriguing play where the plight of a woman is the source of concern. In this play, Susan is irritated by the male dominance that was prevalent in the American society.  She seems to resist the status quo imposed by men in the society. She has artistically used Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale to express her disgust to male dominance in the society. For instance, Mrs. Hale shows her protest against the male view of the world when Henderson belittle the state of Mrs. Wright’s kitchen.  She refuses the mockery “Well, women are used to worrying over trifles” (p.1128). The two women insist that there are other roles of women in the society besides being housekeepers.  In essence, Susan’s work was determined to put a woman in the right place in the society. Socialism and feminism are the central themes in the play ‘’Trifles’’ and it paved the way for the future breakthrough in women’s rights. Susan Glaspell work mainly revolved around her personal experiences.
