Introduction
Transportation policy refers to the development of propositions aimed at achieving socio-economic and environmental goalswhile ensuring the smooth flow of the transport system. On the other hand, transport planning entails the designation and incorporation of measures developed to solveparticularproblems.
Goals of Transport Policies
The purpose of transportation policy is to make effective and clear decisions regarding the way transport resources are applied to entail all activities inmanagement and regulation. The transportation system in the United States of America involves critical elements such as: air, road, water, and rail. Many civilians in the country use automobiles when traveling for shorter distances and airplane or rail for longer distances. Transport policy is both a public and private affair in the United States of America(Schiller &Kenworthy, 2017). The government assumes the role of managing the transportsystems by laying out a regulatory framework that guides transportation activities. The government in the United States of America regulates the transportation policies at all angles.
Transport policy is developed to monitor the monopolistic tendency of various transport modes. Uncontrolled competition usually results in a company taking over the market thus acquiring monopoly powers in the industry. Uncontrolled markets influence the transport industry adversely as the monopoly may change the prices at will, smaller participants may also not access all the required data for effective operations.
Transportation Policies on theEnvironment
The United States of America has successfully regulated the transport sector by ensuring that the environment is safe and can support any ventures in the industry. Public safety and the atmosphere is now active due to the implemented policies. Initially, many issues arising from unregulated transport had been hindering the smooth flow of transport operations. Strategies such as the imposition of equipment standards onthe transportation modes especially on the roads are now active. Driving licenses, moderating the United States of America has developed the hours of work by drivers, development of speed limits to reduce the number of accidents, enhancement of use of seat belts, andimplementation of highway codes in essence of control accident.
Regarding the massive awareness of the environmental effects of transport, control measures and environmental standards have been set out to reinforce this awareness. For instance, the government of United States of America has banned the use of leaded gasoline in an attempt to prevent environmental degradation and to avoid cases of cancer caused by transmissions of the unleaded petrol(Haghshenas, Vaziri&Gholamialam, 2015). In the move aimed at maintaining the environment, the government has mandated catalytic converters in automobiles. These converters applied in diesel engines are critical in the reduction of poisonous gases such as hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions. Every citizen in the United States of America who needs a car must, therefore, ensure it has the mandatory catalytic converter and goes through several smog tests to prevent the omission of harmful emissions which degrade the environment.
Conclusion
Effective transport policies enable the smooth flow of operations in the country. Personally, these policies on environmental control have allowed my responsibilities as a branch manager to be simplified. I no longer have a lot of pressures in environmental control as the government dramatically assists me in the regulation of environmental degradation through the enactment of these transportation policies. I can decide effectively on how to allocate transport resources such as the management of current transportation activities.
