The Critical Theorists

The critical theorists mainly aimed to criticize modernization. They argued how popular culture and media had changed the lives of people in the contemporary world. One of the 1main claims of critical theorists was that popular culture has significantly affected the music industry. According to the theorists, the music culture has moved from melodic trade to include advertising as well as offering culture and ways of life. They argued that popular culture has led to changes in the lives of people. Due to the many channels of socialization, people can copy the lifestyles and culture of other people in society. The music culture is now aimed at cross-promoting among organized compliances (Morrell, 2002). The critical theorists claimed that popular culture has led to changes in the culture and behavior of the young people in society.

The critical theorists claim that media writings are only aimed to scrutinize to reveal the power and political greed. This implies that the media is used as a site where corporate compete to attain the most concern from the people. As a result, it results in changes in the lifestyle of people — users of the media struggle to belong to a particular group on the basis of corporate power. The critical theorists did not associate the popular culture and media with any benefit to the members of society. They are aimed to advertise big corporate because they contain messages designed to attract people to a particular group (McLaren, 2016). According to critical theorists, the popular culture and media have negative impacts on young children and the youth. Protecting them from business messages and pop culture is hard. Materials related to these advertisements are available on social media sites and mobile phones, hence it is hard to prevent the underage people from accessing them.

According to the critical theorists, popular culture and media are only concerned about power and competition. This has led to the dominance of groups of people in the social and society, which is perceived to be normal. Popular culture and media have led to generalizations in race, ethnicity, gender, and age, which has detrimental effects on the current generation. The critical theorists claimed that popular culture and media had created significant differentiation in the people of society (Morrell, 2002). Instead of uniting the users of social sites, it has led to the dominance of some groups of people. They mainly aimed to criticize the current society, which is dominated by media and popular culture.  These theorists did not acknowledge any benefit associated with the popular culture because it is to the disadvantage of the members of society. Many corporations have used the popular culture and media to advertise themselves, without considering the effect of this content to the minors in the community.

The critical theory’s analysis is convincing. It depicts what is precisely happening in real life situations. In the contemporary world, popular culture is used to make people and organization more prominent. Big companies have used music and art to advertise themselves (McLaren, 2016). However, these messages are available to every user of the internet irrespective of the age. Social media has played a significant role in causing the moral decay being experienced in the current world. People have access to the activities of different cultural and ethnic groups. They also can copy them because there is no restriction on the use of media. Thus, the critiques presented by the critical theories are valid and evident in the contemporary world. Popular culture and media have significantly affected the lives of many people,  and cause adverse effects to society.
