I plan to immerse myself under the spectrum category of the Christian religion, particularly the Catholic denomination.

I chose to immerse myself in the Christian religion and particularly the Catholic denomination because I have been raised under a Christian family background. Most of my friends both in school and back at home are also staunch members of the Catholic denomination. As a believer of the Christian faith, I am interested in knowing much about the denomination and compare it with my Jewish faith.

To learn more about the Christian religion, I am planning to attend the Catholic Church services at St. Augustine Church. The church is the nearest Catholic church in my neighborhood and is also the one which most of my Catholic friends often attend. Hence, I will be more comfortable attending the services of this particular church than any other Catholic church.

I have always viewed Catholic church believers as staunch members who are highly conservative and always ready to do anything to defend their church and its image even when their religious leaders are wrong. Some of the stereotypes that I have heard in the past about the Catholic Church was that they often read the bible partially and also bar their clergies from marrying or having children.

There are several special considerations that I will have to uphold during my immersion experience. First, I will need to master and recite some of the hymns used by the Church during their services. I will also need to switch off my phone or put it on silent mode when inside the church since the Catholic Church prohibits its congregation from usingtheir phones during sermons. Lastly, I will have to follow every action taken by the members including standing up during the worship session or even kneeling when praying.

As a Christian believer of a different denomination from the Catholic Church, there is much I am expecting to learn and hoping to gain from the immersion. First, I hope to learn how the Catholic Church conducts its services and how different it is from our church. Since my childhood, I have never been to any other church except the one that my family members attend. Hence, I have no experience of how other churches look like and how they conduct their services. Secondly, I am hoping to gain some knowledge on the foundation of the Catholic church and its religious principles. I am hoping of gaining some experience, mainly how they pray, the songs they sing during sermons, and whether they offer other commodities apart from money as a tithe.  Lastly, I am hoping to expand my knowledge on matters concerning religion and the central aspect that differentiate the various denominations that exist in the world today.

I am always nervous when trying a different thing for the first time. I am, therefore, a bit worried about this experience. Particularly, I am nervous about entering the Catholic Church for the first time and sitting down to listen to the teachings by their clergy. I am also nervous about the kind of reception I will get from other church members and how they perceive my presence there since I am of another denomination.
