This poem is simple in structure, but it carries a subject worth thinking of.  It is a poem that makes a series of interesting comparisons that are both intelligible and unusual. The poem compares a small human brain to the vast sky, ocean and a large extent to God. It is worth understanding that this is a concept that many people would not have given a thought thus making the poem quite philosophical. The poet has artistically and efficiently used figurative language to give the idea of how the brain, despite its small size, can learn and access all the information under the sun. “For-put them side by side- The one the other will contain…”(2-3). It is also interesting noting how the speaker has made good use of simile as she makes a comparison of the ocean, sponge and bucket. ‘’As Sponges—Buckets—do—‘’ (8). This comparison makes it easy to have a clear understanding of the profound message contained in his poem.  Just like the way a sponge would absorb the water in a bucket, the same case applies to the brain that can learn and understand all the concepts under the sun. The poem concludes by comparing the brain’s ability to the godly powers ‘’ The Brain is just the weight of God –‘’ (13). Her comparison of the human brain to the natural world makes the poem fascinating.
