In my family, we have strengths that make us bond together and improve individual’s welfare as well as weaknesses that sometimes drive us apart. However, it is essential that I plan on how I will maintain the strengths and eliminate the possibility of repeating the weaknesses that might continue impacting our family negatively. As a family, we have several strengths, and one of them is effective communication. Our parents encouraged us to speak about issues that affect us openly without fear of being judged. We even have weekly family meetings to discuss our progress throughout the week and the challenges we experienced. Our parents then offer their advice on how we can tackle various issues.

We care about each other in my family and ensure everyone is comfortable. We are also forgiving, and if one of the family members hurt the other person, we usually say apologize. We are also an understanding family such that if a person’s action does not go well with our family values, we tend to seek for the reasons and let them know that we support them depending on the situation. Our family values education and our parents ensure that we go to the best schools and develop our skills and knowledge. I intend to keep these strengths by speaking about them openly with my family members for them to understand how valuable they are and how strong we can be if we uphold our strengths.

As a family, we also have weaknesses, and one of those weaknesses is that we have much freedom of speech such that every member is opinionated.  Sometimes we tend to be stubborn and cause trouble among ourselves and to others. We are also impatient as we want everything done within the shortest time possible. In most occasions, we tend to take advantage of our closeness and fail to appreciate each other.  We tend to focus much on ourselves that we forget about the existence of other people who are not our family member. I intend to avoid repeating these weaknesses by practicing listening skills such that we can understand the needs of others and not assume the situation every time.
