Over the past decade, the world has experienced changes in how the members of the public communicate with each other. Research indicates that individuals have changed from the ordinary way of conversing by the use of one official language. Majority of the people are now using code-switching which involves a mixture of more than one language for communication. The primary issue of focus is whether this trend has improved communication or has led to the erosion of cultural identity.
The purpose of this research is to show why there has been an increase in the number of individuals who embrace code-switching as a communication tool across the world. The rise in globalization is gradually making people adapt to code-switching as a new approach to communicating. It is because individuals who come from different cultures and backgrounds mix and interact. As a result, they exchange ideas and information regularly. Additionally, individual should understand the importance of communication in their daily lives. Code-switching acts as a tool that unites individuals from different races (Brown and Nelson, 2009). This is even though many individuals have discouraged its use as it destroys diversity. First, individuals can be assimilated by the dominant groups hence, making it easier for them to comprehend a variety of languages. They can use new skills to handle a variety of tasks at their place of work. Besides, code-switching is inevitable in today’s working environment as individuals from different races and backgrounds and races interact and work together. Therefore,I encourage individuals to embrace it because of its numerous benefits that outweigh its disadvantages.
