Abstract
Recruitment as well as selection of employees is a vital operation in human resource (HR) department. When hiring, companies seek to get the most out of the people recruited. As much as this may seem obvious, companies continue to use unstructured techniques when hiring. This thesis takes particular interest in the hiring, evaluation and development of employees by the HR department. The primary aim of this exposition is to identify effective recruitment methods HR department can apply when hiring. Secondly, the article explains the different types of skills, abilities, qualities as well as competences the employers are looking for in potential employees during the evaluating and selection of employees. Lastly, effective methods of improving the development of employees are identified. Additionally, the theoretical framework of the topic is discussed from the HR point of view.
Secondary data on these topics were found from internet based sources such as journals, paper and books. Furthermore, previous surveys, studies and researches were used. Primary data was gained through qualitative and quantitative research methods.
The quantitative data was found with the help of two questionnaires. The first questionnaire was given to employees and current interns at various companies while the second one was answered by various students and graduates from European educational institutions such as universities. The qualitative information, on the other hand, was gathered through interviewing CEO and Head of Human Resource Management.
Once the study is done, the conclusions on the research were made, research questions were answered, and practical recommendations were given. As a result of this thesis paper, the most effective methods and channels of recruitment were discovered, the best and proper evaluation and selection methods were proposed. Also, what recruiters are looking for regarding skills, qualifications, abilities and competencies were discussed in details. Furthermore, development methods were sufficiently presented. Lastly, additional ideas for future research work was suggested.
