Othello; Love and Hate

Introduction

The topic for this discussion based on one of Shakespeare’s famous Play, ‘Othello’ is a love, jealousy, and hate. The two items which I will contrast in this paper is love and hate. I will also refer love a form of jealousy. I will base my argument on three points of comparison which are father issues, incest issues, and a tragic flow. I will also make a comparison of Othello and a real-life character of myself.

The play Othello demonstrates love and humanistic ideal destroyed. It also shows tragic fortune especially for women in a time of patriarchal society. In this paragraph, I will look at how the play includes several main lessons of tragedies which are delivered through some of the contrasting values and characters, for example, love and jealousy, trust, and at the same time breach of trust. These are some of the father issues which have been demonstrated. For example, Desdemona, an individual who is defined as the perfect embodiment of a faithful, loving wife, is eventually killed by a suspecting husband, Emilia, an analytical woman who knew how to obey the social norms is still carried a sense of inherent moral compass and compassion.

Othello has a nature of being honest, and he seems to be an open individual who is direct while dealing with people. He is a character who is courageous in battle, an excellent commander and military man. Othello is also a genuine person due to the fact he loves Desdemona genuinely. This is the bases of what I address in this paragraph in relation to love and hate. From his outstanding characteristics, men around him respect his competency. For example, in a marriage fight of marriage, there is a rebellious spirit of a new age woman who dared to challenge a patriarchal family. Even after Desdemona got married in the face of Othello’s insult and murder, her behavior was weak and passively obedient (Shakespeare, 2018). The main cause of this change was due to the lack of struggle from judgments which she was facing that has the basis of societal norms. This particular character was married and saw no need for continually proving to the community that her marriage was in order and proper. She did not o fight for love anymore because she was in contempt and her obedient personality was revealed.

Othello’s wife transferred her status from being an obedience daughter to an obedient wife. From Othello’s wife character, incest issues can be found. This was essential for her to offer unconditional and obedience love to Othello. Nonetheless, her death may be contributed to her naively. Her Friendliness and helpful nature were most of the times exploited to mislead Othello.Othello can be defined as a tragedy due to the fact that it meets the definition of tragedy in standards similar to authorizes as Aristotle. Aristotle was able to define tragedy as a story about something which is serious and certain of magnitude using drama to tell of the fall of someone who is highly placed. This type of fall happens due to external or internal forces especially and tragic flow.

Lago is an exciting character in the play who can be described as an evil, jealous, revenge-seeking character, and an individual who is manipulative. This character is manipulative throughout the play, a trait which is able to benefit him. I believe that this character is one of the best villains in the play.At the beginning of the play, this character is jealous and seeking revenge on Michael Cassio and Othello due to the fact Lago had initially thought he deserved but did not. While this character remains only as an ensign to Othello, Michael Cassio was promoted to higher rank soldier even though he was ranked under Othello. This incident was a motivating factor for Lago to destroy the lives of Michael Cassio and Othello. In Act one of the play, Lago hates Othello for promoting Cassio, who Lago had considered as less capable of a soldier than himself. He planned to use Othello to his advantage.

Lago was an intelligent character and he knew that he had the trust and respect from Othello and went ahead to work in deceiving everyone who was around him.Othello can be regarded as a tragedy of a noble hero which is brought down through a fatal flaw that is jealousy that is demonstrated in his character. Domestic tragedy has been shown under love, hate, revenge, and trust. Humanity is demonstrated in dazzling diversity (Shakespeare, 2006).

Conclusion

From the comparison of those two items in the essay, I was to learn that this kind of tragedy affects us through the revealing of scenes which are able to inspire pity and terror. Pity arises around through spectacle of people who more of the same like us and whose fate is similar to ours. The hero of the story goes through suffering which brings to the surface bare bones of nature for us to observe. The light of people’s strengths and nobility, and at the same time weaknesses, is able to emerge through the experience of tragedy. I feel that there is a sense of uplift at the end of a tragedy. When the tragic hero dies, his resistance of negative emotions over the course of action and insight gains reaffirms on faith in people’s nature. The death which cannot be escaped comes along as a result as a sign of relief. The first impression of Desdemona is a woman who is independent, mature, courageous, and self-assured. Although she makes justifications for her actions, she is a modern type of woman who is able to make choices in her life trying to make her way into the world.
