I grew up with my grandmother who was the only district nurse at a rural parish hospital clinic in XX.  My grandmother would often come home tired,but she always found time to help ill people who came to her home for medical care because they had to work in the fields all day and was unable to go to the clinic for care during regular hours. I admired her level of dedication that enabled her to care for those in her community, as well as strangers and I want to follow in her footsteps.  My love for nursing intensified when I migrated to the U.S. and regularly volunteered at my church, XX, helping to provide healthy meals and clothing and assisting the nursing team in providing necessary medical evaluations to homeless families.

One of the personal goals that I often desire to achieve is that I should be able to change the lives of people around me. There are many ways that one can improve the lives of people, either by directly helping them or being an influence in their lives. My idea is that I can be able to change the lives of people by meeting them at the most critical points of their lives. Illness is one of the essential points in peoples’ lives. Not only does it scare one since they are afraid of losing life itself but it also makes one aware of the things that they at times take for granted. My focus in taking this carter is that I would be able to give people hope and ensure that they still get a chance to live through the services that I would be offering. For me, nursing is not just a career but a call.

I always try to plan and work hard to prepare myself to be in a better position to attain my personal, educational and professional goals.  To accomplish my goals, I needed to advance my understanding of science to best prepare myself for nursing, so I majored in Biology and will soon obtain my Bachelor of Science.

My professional goal is not only to get a career that would pay me but rather be in a place where I feel that I would be necessary to other people. I have the feeling that the nursing career does not only give the chance to work, but it also makes you be of critical importance to other people. People would have to trust you with their health which constitutes to everything in their lives. Therefore, this is a career that requires having some incredible level of integrity. Consequently, i think that this is a career that would make me more fulfilled.

I selected to apply to XX School of Nursing because it best fits with my philosophy on adult learning.  It is my understanding that the school decides students with the required coursework and dedication to a nursing career and teaches them the nursing skill sets and its practical applications so they can become proficient in their chosen field of nursing.  I believe this is the type of accelerated adult learning that fits with my personality and philosophy.
