One way that I can take a more active role in health promotion and with my patients and community is by sensitizing them about cancer. The hospital holds sensitization forums regularly to educate people about cancer and early prevention. According to the center for diseases control (2013), cancer deaths and new cancer cases can be reduced drastically by screening for any cancer.  Screening for colorectal and cervical cancer help prevent them by finding the precancerous lesions and treating it before it becomes cancerous. Screening of other types of cancer also allows early detection and treatment at an early stage when it works best. One can reduce the risk of cancer by making good health choices like avoiding alcohol, tobacco, skin protection from the sun among others.  Most people do not have this kind of information and through the sensitization forums; I will be able to inform them better and help prevent and reduce cancer in my community.

I feel it is my professional responsibility to discuss disease prevention with my patients. Promoting good health care is part of my job. This includes treating and preventing diseases. Educating the patient about the disease is part of treatment in that the patient will be able e to handle the disease better. The patient will also be able to prevent from contacting the disease later and inform other community members. By educating the patients, I am educating the society and thus promoting health in my community. Diseases such as HIV Aids are non-curable and so if you do not educate the patients on prevention, then you are not helping promote health in the community.

Great thought Stacie, health fair provides one with the chance to interact with the community members and educate them. Stroke, heart disease, and cancer can all be detected through screening. Early detection is significant to successful treatment. In addition, with the correct information, these diseases are preventable. It is our duty to inform the public on the prevention and early detection of these diseases. In addition, discussing disease prevention with patients is part of our professional duty. When the patient is well informed about the disease, treatment, and later prevention becomes easy. However, such teachings should be done at the appropriate time and place.

Good view Stephen, as nurses there are many things we can do to promote the health of the community. As a nurse, you interact with the community members and it is easy to observe and listen to them and know their health problems. By doing this, it is easy to identify disease outbreaks and facilitate control and prevention. It is our responsibility as nurses to discuss disease prevention and health promotion with our patients. Our responsibility as nurses is not only to treat but also to prevent the recurrence and spread of diseases. We can only achieve this by educating the patients on prevention.

Great thinking Brian, educating the community on disease control and prevention is part of promoting health.  Many of the diseases that people contract can be prevented by observing a few things such as hygiene and screening. However, the community needs to be educated on control, prevention, and benefits of early treatment.  This can go a long way in promoting the health of the community. In addition, disease prevention is part of our professional responsibility. Rather than treating, prevention is another way of promoting health. Screening and early detection of diseases can reduce the cases of diseases such as cancer and stroke.
