The Northern and Southern military had different strategies to win the war. Both had advantages and disadvantages but the north had more advantages and ended up winning the war. The northerners applied different strategies in the war. First, they prevented the southerners from accessing the things they needed in the war by shutting down ports along the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic. This prevented the southerners from shipping cotton to Europe. In addition, they took over the Mississippi River and this cut the confederacy by two. Again, the Northerners were planning to take over Richmond the capital of the south to make sure that the command lines are disrupted. The northerners had a numerical advantage and they used it to engage the enemy in all fronts to breaks the spirit of the Confederate army. The northerners won because they had more resources, high population
The southerners however also had their strategies. They decided to prepare but wait for the north to attack. The plan was to cripple the northern army but the plan never worked. They also tried to cut their supply of cotton to Europe with the hope that Europe would come to their aid in exchange for cotton but Europe decided to get cotton from Egypt and India. As result, the southerners lacked resources to buy weapons and maintain the army
REPARATIONS
Reparation is making amends for a wrong done through compensation or helping those who have been wronged. This has happened in America in the past such as the Reparation of the African Americans for the civil war and the post civil war. In 1862, when President Abraham Lincoln signed a bill ending slavery in the District of Columbia, the slave owners were reparated for every freed slave. This can be viewed as meant to encourage the slave owners to free the slaves but it is the slaves who deserved reparation.
The issue of repatriating the descendants of the slaves has always been controversial. In an article on CNN by Eric Liu (2014), he has the view that America can only do reparations if people see its necessity. When slavery existed, the African Americans were subjected to horrible conditions and the issue of reparation is always debatable. The descendants of the slaves still suffer to date due to the lack stable living conditions. Wealth is passed from one generation to the other and the slaves had nothing to pass on. The descendants should thus receive reparation. The American society will only integrate to be one big society if the different minority groups receive reparation for nay wrongs the government may have done in the past.

Response to Christopher DeCaterina
Hi Christopher, great work over there, I agree the southerners recognized in the beginning that they had no population and enough resources and so decided to wait for the Northerners to attack first. The plan was to cripple the northern army but the plan failed. The Northerners were very resourceful, had a high population, and made them more powerful. Both had advantages and disadvantages but the North had more advantages and ended up winning the war. The southern refused to export cotton to Europe hoping Europe will come to their aid but the plan also backfired since cotton was available elsewhere.
Response to Natasha Girard
Hi Natasha, great thinking over there, as people argues. I also feel there has never been a national implementation of reparation. The socioeconomic gap between the black and white Americans is very high and this is partly because the black Americans are descendants of the slave and have argued to raise themselves from generation to generation. Wealth is passed from one generation to the other and the slaves had nothing to pass on. The American society will only integrate to be one big society if the different minority groups receive reparation for nay wrongs the government may have done in the past.
