In the world today, advocacy for gender equality has been on the rise in a wide range of aspects. Among the areas where women’s rights have been embraced is in the military. Nowadays, more and more females are getting recruited in the army without any discrimination. Although sexist groups, Republicans, and other people oppose the involvement of women in the military, citing reasons such as inherent limited physical strength as compared to men, there are several advantages of having an army comprising of both female and male soldiers.

First, female soldiers are the best in engagement teams where crucial information and intelligence is required from civilian women. During the war in Afghanistan, male soldiers were unable to obtain vital information from women in towns and villages since the former feared the latter. But when women soldiers intervened, the female citizens became comfortable and gave the required information (Bryce). This experience substantiates the essence of women in the military.

Second, being a female soldier enables a woman not only to learn lucrative skills such as engineering, mechanics, and flight that are beneficial in the military but also to creates a pool of candidates for a wide range of military tasks. Additionally, the availability of women wishing to become soldiers allows the heads to select the best-qualified woman to serve in various capacities (Good). Hence, allowing women in the military is beneficial not only to their career and personal development but also to the army.

Third, states that permit every gender to become soldiers provide opportunities for women to pursue their passion and showcase their talents. Professionals who are passionate about their job are more productive than those whose drive is fame, finances or other benefits. According to Singh, “ability doesn’t seek approval of gender. It’s scientifically proven that women are more mentally tough than men and hence are better able to deal with stress” (Singh n.d); hence women can become competent soldiers and instrumental aspect in the military.

On the other hand, there are those who argue that women should not be allowed to partake in military activities based on their physical, emotional, gender, and psychological weaknesses. The first reason that the opponents of the female in the military give is that most women lack the physical strength required to execute combat effectively. For instance, a 120-pound female will need to carry the same mass as a 210-pound male (Dawn). The second justification as to why women should not be in the military is that mother soldiers do not have quality time with their children. This parental unavailability denies children the essential primary socialization that prepares them to be competent members of society. Lastly, female soldiers are a target for harassment and sexual abuse by fellow soldiers and the enemy army. This vulnerability of females to abuse may result in swayed focus because males instinctively wish to protect females, making men at work endeavor to protect their female counterparts instead of fighting the enemy.

In conclusion, there is a wide range of benefits of incorporating female soldiers in the military. Some of the benefits include the creation of skilled engagement teams for the acquisition of intelligence across genders, development of a pool of proficient candidates for various military positions, and providing opportunities for nurturing military talents in women. Notwithstanding these benefits, integrating women in the military may have adverse results such as family imbalance, swayed focus on the battlefield, and sexual assault. Military-affiliated agencies such as the government should devise ways and means of looking into the welfare of the women in the military by providing equal opportunities for both genders.
