The first objective is developing an understanding of the foundation theories and conceptual frameworks. I have achieved the goal by developing skills in structuring ideas, which helps to view phenomena systematically and purposefully and to be able to solve new situations in nursing.   I have met the second objective through understanding the meaning of health, nursing, environment, and person in different perspectives depending on a case and how they work together to bring about the health of a patient. In the third goal on the impact of nursing theory, I have understood how the nursing theories help understand the nursing program and carry out nursing duties. On the objective of demonstrating critical thinking and creativity in the application of the theoretical framework, I have gone through the theories and explored how they nurses applied them in various situations and developed a strategy of changing them to fit different settings.  To be able to describe methods of evaluating nursing concepts, I have learned how to apply other cases in identifying similarity, which can lead to solutions.

On articulating philosophical base for nursing practice, I have learned how theories affect any nursing practice and how to stick to the frameworks which keep the practice free form personal beliefs to maintain ethics. To develop an appreciation of different types of reasoning, I have learned how to research other nursing cases which may inform the situation at hand. The same research has enabled me to be able to articulate reasoning by identifying the applicability of the treatment procedures used in other cases.

Has the material in the course changed your professional practice?

The materials in the cause have changed my professional practice. I have learned to research and use evidence in nursing practice, which assures of patient’s safety. The evidence from other cases will enable me to develop specific care to patients that are of a high standard to make them have better outcomes.  Also, the materials have helped me to be able to apply critical thinking and creativity other than jusyt judging on different cases of patients. I can now be able to figure out all the necessary nursing knowledge I have acquired and compare it with my and patient’s beliefs and the organizational values to ensure that I maintain an ethical standard in the profession. From the course, I can now be able to evaluate different concept and theories, which will inform my practice as a nurse.

How might nursing theory influence your professional practice?

Nursing theory will shift my practice from judgmental to evidence-based. The approaches have a framework of deciding different phenomena. In the cause of my profession, I will develop ways of planning objectives and values through the theory to be able to handle different nursing cases. The approach provides structures of professional communication. I will develop a new way of communicating with medical professions and patients. The theories will change my way of handling patients to show care and concern. Also, I will be able to create collaboration with other medics to bring about the general safety of the patients. The theories have a system of inquiry which nurses use to create more knowledge. As a result, I will improve my experience in taking care of patients. I will become more skilled in nursing through continuous improvement of experience, which the theory enables through the provision of a framework for evidence-based practice.
