Medical Imaging Science Reflection essay

Introduction

I am planning to study medical imaging science with the intention of becoming a radiologist.  I need a reflection of how to become a leading radiologist and help the sick across the borders (Hamilton, 2011).   Gibb’s reflective cycle will be an important tool in the reflection practice.

Description

I had initially planned to pursue a career in dental science due to my passion in good teeth. However, one day during my rounds in a health facility, I encountered a patient of my age. I understood that he had a 10cm liver cancer and that he was desperate in need of liver transplant that was difficult to achieve. This touched my heart, and I decided to study medical imaging and provide an alternative treatment for such conditions (Bulman, 2013). I was made to understand that intervention radiologist could play a significant role in treating the can cancer problems that have been a major global disaster.

Feeling

Despite my great passion for assisting cancer patient in their distressful conditions, I felt that this will be a very devastating experience. For instance, most of the cancer patients will have some desperate conditions that would not offer the best of experiences to handle. These conditions will require a great level of professionalism to enable me deliver the expected treatment to such patients (Wilson & Grande, 2013). Outward calmness will also be of great importance to ensure increased confidence in service delivery.

Evaluation

Despite my fear that I could not manage to make it in medical imaging, I still believe I have essential qualities to make this dream a success. My passion for making lives better to the patient cancer remains a key driving force for me to pursue this career. I also have the education requirement and skills to make the best radiologist in the world (Hamilton, 2011). My passion for research and development will be critical for improving the career in medical imaging.

Analysis

It is essential to understand that radiology directly impacts almost every specialty in medicine. Cancer treatment will require medical imaging in order to determine the effectiveness of the treatment (Wilson & Grande, 2013). In order to make my dream of becoming a great radiologist, it is imperative that I pursue the imaging experience with passion and great determination. It will also be of paramount importance to carry out mentorship and benchmarking programs to enhance my experience in this field.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is clear that my dream of becoming a radiologist is unstoppable. I have a great passion in providing solutions to problems and cancer is among the leading killer diseases in the world. Participating in the fight against cancer will be a dream come true (Hamilton, 2011).  I have learned my weaknesses and strengths that will be instrumental in career growth and development.

 

 

Action plan

For me to have a good action plan, it is important that I conduct my SWOT analysis. This will help me identify my weaknesses and strengths and make the right decisions. I am determined to be a leading global radiologist and a significant player in the fight against cancer. I will also take time and improve on my weaknesses (Bulman, 2013).  For instance, I will work tirelessly to improve on my mental strength of dealing with fear accompanied with dealing with cancer patients. I will enroll in a four year course to learn medical imaging which is critical in diagnosing and treatment of diseases. I will ensure that I have vast knowledge in radiography, X-rays, ultrasound and computed tomography.

Learning need

The medical imaging sector is a continuous learning experience. There is always room for more learning that is essential to making a perfect radiologist that I aspire to be.  For instance, it is important that I have basic medical knowledge that will be essential in radiotherapy (Wilson & Grande, 2013). It is also important to learn background information on the causes and major cancer treatment.
