Begin the class by asking the students to name different types of food found in a restaurant. Write the vocabulary items on the board and make sure students also take notes. Teach the vocabulary items on the menu if they are not included on the board using the new language. Review the statements written by students at unanticipated times throughout the lesson.

Give students a restaurant dialogue and menu, and ask them to read through it carefully. Point out the use of verbs such as “would like” for making offers and requests, and “Can I” for making offers. Also, make sure they notice the use of different fillers along with different responses giving them some time to practice. | |

10 Mins | Have the learners practice each dialogue aloud with a partner using the new language. Practice pronunciation. Have the students change the conversation by altering the food ordered or drinksusing the learned language. Ask more advanced students to add to the discussion.
Get the students into the negotiation with restaurant waitpersons in finding the best food for them.

10 Mins | Pair students up and ask them to use the menu to role play by ordering a meal. Both students should switch roles several times. Switch the subject into checking in or checking out of a restaurant and have the students to role-play, one being a customer and the other a receptionist.

10 Mins | Put the students into small groups and give them several scenarios. Include settling of restaurant bills in the prompts. Get the students role play how to pay restaurant bills politely with some taking the role of waiters and others customers. Include incidences of dissatisfaction with services in the dialogue using the new language.
