Many factors affect my decision to work. One of the factors is that I need the money to be able to live comfortably. I want to work in an environment why I received a competitive package including other packages such as car insurance, health insurance, and life insurance. In addition, I not only work for money but also for development. Through working, I learn new things, which help me develop my career. In future, I want to be a better person in terms of career and I have to develop today. Another thing that affects my decision to work is being challenged. I like being challenged with new concepts and ideas since they help me develop. Income is not the only reason why I work. There are other reasons like development and work benefits.
If I happened to win a lottery of $200,000 per year, I would continue to work. This is because I need to develop my career. In addition, I am the kind of person who likes being challenged by ideas. If I just stay home, there will be no ideas to challenge. Again, with that kind of money and still working, I can manage to make my dream of starting my own company come true in a few years. However, to start the company I need experience and that a major reason why I work. I do not want to spend the whole day doing nothing productivity. I want to contribute to the economy by working and helping solve social problems.
Response to Joshua Schreiber
Hi Joshua, great thinking over there, I like your idea of working today to relax tomorrow but I have the feeling that tomorrow never comes. You might be working to safe now but what about you develop your career so that in future you have a competitive job where you can save more or even start your own business. You claim that the pay is low and benefits are not great where you work. This is the reason why you should be working to develop your career to have a better pay and great benefits in future.
You have said that if you won the lottery you would still work but only if you were doing what you like. Does it mean that if you were still working in the lumberyard you would quit? If you happened to quit then you would be consuming the $200,000 instead of saving it for retirement.
Response to Rosalie O’Brien
Hi Rosalie, thoughtful ideas there, having some income is good but it is not the only reason why people want to work. For example, I like being challenged with new concepts and ideas since they help me develop. Income is not the only reason why I work; there are other reasons like development and work benefits. I see you also like being challenged in your work. It is through such challenges that you develop your career. I see you will also continue working even after winning a rotary. I think it would be boring to just stay home just because one has free money. I think money is never enough it would just be better to continue working or start a business. Even the world richest people still work not because they need more money but because they have other reasons to work. Just like you and me, everybody has other reasons for working.
