Subject: Findings of Student Response of Instruction Approaches

Dear MPA Director, analysis of student response to the survey conducted about the effectiveness of various instructional methods shows three critical findings. First, most students prefer class discussions as the best of instruction. This is because the highest number of students (50) viewed it as very effective. Besides, very few students saw it as ineffective (2), coming second to lectures and case studies, which has a response of 1 each for being very ineffective. The second observation from the data is the fact that students do not like group projects. Group projects had the highest number of responses for a very ineffective approach of instruction. It also scored very low (8) under the very effective methods category coming second last only to exams, which scored 6.

The third and most significant finding is that students prefer instructional methods that begin and end in the classroom within the class time allocated. For instance, class discussion scored the highest (50) as a very effective instruction method. Case studies and lectures scored 40 and 34 to become second and third respectively. Similarly, the approaches got the least number of responses under the very ineffective instructional methods scoring 2,1, and 1 respectively. On the other hand, they do not like instructional methods that engage them beyond the classroom time. For instance, group projects, which require several meetings is the least preferred. It scored the highest (20) under the very ineffective category followed by student presentations (18), which need students to prepare adequately before attending class. Similarly, student presentation and group discussion scored the least (8) each coming second last only to exams, which scored 6 under the same category.

The institution should take into consideration these findings when designing instruction approaches to meet the needs of the students and quality of education and research in the institution.
