In the undertaking of any project, communication is very important. A strategic plan should be part of any project. A strategic communication plan has several aspects including the message medium of communication and the targets (Smith, 2012). Any communication must have targets and must have the people intended for.
A local NGO in my home area is planning for a run to finance for heart treatment of children in our neighborhood. The target of the run is to raise $10 million and help many children live longer. However, this plan solely depends on the public to participate in the run. The plan is to have tickets, which will be sold at strategic points in the area, and people can buy. The more people who buy the tickets, the more money come in. the organization is also targeting businesses and companies to donate what they can for the course.
However, for this plan to succeed, there need to be a strategic communication plan. The public needs to be informed of the plan and how the finances raised will be utilized. People need to know that they can trust the organization with the plan. The plan needs to be communicated in a way that sticks. As far as the plan is well communicated, it will receive the required support.
First, the organization needs to reach as many people as possible to inform them of the course. This will require good communication. First, the organization has to decide what the message to the public is. The message must be appealing to those who it is intended for (Smith, 2012). Since most of the people in the area are middle-income earners, they are the target. These people can afford to spare some of their income to support the noble course. With the message developed, the medium of communication then comes in. the medium will moistly depend on the target audience. For the young people, using the social media would be more effective as compared to mass media. For the older generation, using mass media would be more effective. With this argument, the organization can combine the two Medias and reach as many people as possible.
To manage this kind of a project, the organization will need to portray good leadership. Leadership runs hand in hand with effective communication good leaders should also be good communicators. If the organization does not communicate effectively, the management will be to blame.
