According to Gloria, individuals should not be ashamed of their culture, identity and native tongue because of influence from the dominant cultures. She uses italics in her writing whenever she mentioned Spanish terms and applies normal texts throughout the essay. The writer makes this essay unique from others because she divides it into two sections, overcoming the tradition silence and attack on linguistics. Each section helps the reader to analyze the situations and locate the solutions. For instance, she explains her bad experiences as a Chicano and provide information on how she overcame the linguistic terrorism. The writers organizes the plot in an engaging manner, it sounds appealing to pathos and focus on the reader’s sympathy.
