The lessons encourage students to work with their peers. Many students would like to interact with their fellow colleagues so that they attain their goals. Similarly, students find it useful when they discuss and participate fully in the classrooms. Second, TEDEd lessons encourage students and learning institutions to use technology. Technology allows students to learn by doing, and this makes them focus more. Therefore, the digital age engages students more and makes them understand the concepts well.
The students are encouraged to think about what they have learned in the following ways. The teachers will prompt students’ reflection by asking them questions. However, these questions seek students to reason and provide evidence for their ideas. Also, the teacher will provide students with enough wait-time. It will allow them to reflect when they respond to the questions.
The students are required to develop arguments over their ideas or questions. Also, they are to give reflections, judgment and evaluation of the work they have done. However, the teachers will use that and assess the students by allowing them to write essays, reports and book reviews. The results of the assessment process will determine if the students have understood the concepts.
One of the ways to incorporate TEDEd lesson into the class is by getting the students to give subject specific TED talks. The teacher can come up with ideas and assign them to students and so that they can think about the topic. The students will use the opinions assigned to them and give a TED talk from an individual’s perspective. The students’ critical thinking skills will help them plan and give the TED talk in the classroom. Second, the teacher will create a TED talk unit. The students will not only brainstorm their vital ideas but also provide them in a convincing manner. A TED talk unit is good in instilling the important points into people’s minds. The teacher will use the TED talk unit to teach students about the presentation skills, arguments and rhetoric.
The lesson that I explored is why people prefer online courses by Crawley Anita. What I learned is that people who engage in online classes improve their technical skills, overcome isolation, increase motivation and avoid commuting (Crawley, 2012). Similarly, the students are much involved in interaction with other through the social media, and this improves their concentration.
Part II
The “Be sure to” concept in the reflection strategy allows the students to craft their own “Be sure to” statements. The concept helps students to write an outline for their homework and focus on what they will perform. The teacher will ask the students to pull one aspect of a rubric or task, and the students will articulate what that task should be. The strategy makes it easy for a teacher to carry out the assessment since the students have already understood the concepts. The other strategy is think-pair do not share. It allows the teacher to give the students some minutes to work the various activities in pairs. Therefore, the teacher will assess the students according to how they performed in pairs.
