Red Canna is one of Georgia O’Keeffe’s masterpieces, which was painted in the year 1924. This painting depicts a red canna flower, which is one of the many flowers O’Keeffe painted in her brilliant artistic career. One of the things that her flower paintings have in common is the fact that they are magnified so as to make one appreciate the beauty that a tiny flower has, and which very often most people tend to overlook (“Red Canna by Georgia O’Keeffe – Facts & History of the Painting”, 2016). It is important to point out that Georgia O’Keeffe’s masterpieces were mostly derived from natural sources and depicted by means of restrained brushwork. She made use of beautifully chosen colors that fully complements each other.
To help introduce kids to her art, it is essential to ensure that the children embrace natural resources. This will help the children embrace the techniques as well as the visual elements associated with her art. For instance, the children will be expected to have brightly colored flowers that naturally grow in the bushes. Different colored pencils and a sheet of drawing paper will also be essential for the children to understand the art. It is important to point out that children may not be very competent and hence use of paints and brushes may not be effective. After they have all these requirements, then they will be required to observe the flower and make similar drawings on the paper (Hickman, 2001). They will later paint the drawings using their colored pencils. Such an exercise will help the children understand the techniques and elements of visual arts that the artist used in her work.
