According to Entwistle, “Epistemology is the branch of philosophy that deals with the grounds and nature of knowledge.” There are three models which show the certainty of our perceptions mirroring reality. Those three models are the naive realist, anti-realist, and critical realism. The naïve realists believe there is a direct one on one correspondence between perception and reality and perceive things through their senses. Antirealists are the complete opposite and think there is no necessary correspondence between perception and reality
I hold the position of Critical realist. When I read the story about Rebecca, I could relate to her account due to the way my parents instill those belief growing up. Their worldview was that everything outside of the world was pretty much demonic or for example taking aspirins for a headache or going to see a doctor if one was ill was not having enough faith in God to heal. Today my beliefs and worldview have changed, but they are times that I could go back to those beliefs or experiences to base my perception or view on things.
The following methods are used in knowing logic, empiricism, revelation/ interpretation, and hermeneutics. The logic method of knowing assumes that by looking at one’s rational consistency of reasoning fact and belief can be separate (Entwistle, 2015). There two types of logic include, deductive and inductive. Inductive logic uses specific premises to build a conclusion that is probable but not entirely true, while deductive reasoning can lead to conclusions that are true if only the assumptions leading to it are also right. Revelation knows whom Christ is and allowing Christ to reveal what he is trying to show us.
