Title
The title of this study makes it easier for the readers to conceptualize what the study entails
Abstract
All the important content of the study are briefly highlighted in the abstract section of the report.
Research Problem
This study aims to investigate how performing multiple cognitive tasks affects humans. This problem is essential in nursing because it can be implemented during the patient care administration to improve its effectiveness.
Research Questions
The research questions in this study aim to guide the researcher and lead to the attainment of the study objectives. The research questions used in this study have got a clear purpose; this is to ensure that the researcher is limited within the course of the study. The number of tasks performed by each participant was used as the Independent variable (IV) for the study. The IV was conceptually defined as the level of cognitive engagement of the participants. Operationally, the IV was defined as the ability to cause a destructive effect. The dependent variable (DV) in this study refers to the participants mean score. The DV is conceptually defined as the quality of the outcome. Operationally, the DV infers to the magnitude of the interference.
Review of Literature
The study has applied relevant literature, this is because such studies use the same concepts that were utilized by the researcher. Moreover, the literature elaborates some of the findings of the previous studies which gives essential insight into this study. The research also enlightens the readers on what to expect from this study. For example, the survey by Arden (2002) indicated that multitasking could decrease memory functioning in humans.
Theoretical or Conceptual Framework
The theoretical framework that has been identified in this study gives the implication that cognitive multitasking lowers the quality of performance in humans. The relationships of this theory are clearly defined, and they were helpful in the completion of the study.
Sample Selection
The probability sampling method was used in the selection of the participants for this study. This sampling strategy was appropriate for this design method. A small sample size of 24 participants was used, and this was sufficient owing to the nature of the study.
Data collection
The observation method was used to collect the data, and the observed results were recorded for analysis. Observation method was the most appropriate collection method for this study. The RE-143MC sound-attenuating booth was used as an instrument during the experiment, this was meant to produce a sound which could cause a destructive effect on the participants.
Statistical Analysis and Findings
All the variables used in the study were measured using quantitative means. Descriptive statistics were attributed to each of the obtained measurement. The SPSS statistical tool was applied in the analysis of the received data. Tables have been effectively used in the study to make the findings more elaborate.
Ethical Considerations
Several ethical considerations were taken into account during the study. For example, the researcher obtained the consent of the participants before involving them in the research. Additionally, the information from the participants was duly protected.
Recommendations
The study recommends longer task time and a more significant number of participants. The participants should be offered performance incentives in the future to motivate them in taking part. The direct application of this study is feasible in terms of time, money, effort and ethical risks.
Practical Applications
The study used advanced tools in the data analysis process. However, a shorter task time for the participants makes the study less effective. This research is statistically significant as it has applied numerous statistical tools. If I were a researcher, I would use different cognitive task performance.
Personal Thoughts
I was able to get a quick grasp of what the study entailed, and this made it easier to identify its strengths and weaknesses. The most challenging task in this process was obtaining the relevance of some statistical inferences from the analysis results.
