In the book, the author is mainly talking about education, how education can change the setting and appearance of a society and how different genders are perceived in education. In the book, I would take the analysis where male and female children have stereotyped roles to be a point of discussion. Male children are considered to be better than female children and are given the priority in education than a female who is given the responsibility of taking care of the home. About the reading, I would like to agree to the point where the author states that, the introduction of a school to a community literally changes the setting of the community and brings light to the society, and even put in the map of Ecuador.

The field of comparative education has a lot of traits whereby the education system of one country is compared to that of another community. It has a lot of advantages in that it helps a specific community improve on its education compared to that of another. However, it has its risks in that it can make a society lose its cultural origin in its attempt to copy another one.

Educational discourse refers to the significant way in which information is conveyed to the students from the teachers. The most form of communication used was mouth to mouth communication done in class. It was used in the past but is also used in the present time, and I consider ineffective in learning. In the current time, schools are deemed to be the best way to attain modernization because the skills learned in class and the interaction between students can help achieve modernization.
