In one of his speeches, Pope Francis addressed families as domestic churches and he claimed that Jesus grows in love as soon as partners come together to make a home. He further explained that Jesus grows in the lives of the children who are born in such a home. As a result, the devil mainly attacks a home because he is always aware that it is a form of a church. Despite the fact that parents are just sinners like any other people, they keep advising their children on the importance of righteousness and further teach them the various ways in which they should keep their relationship and faith in God intact. They also observe their morals so that their children can imitate them for them to become great people in the society Just as church recommends.

There are a variety of aspects and similarities that compare a family setting to a church, thereby making the family to be called a domestic church. To start with, family members coexist together in unison and they always help each other. A church a symbol of unity where different believers from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds come together and share a common faith. Even though different values may characterize different cultures, the church brings such individuals together and binds them with a common belief. The church dictates new values that should be observed by such members and they willingly abide by the new obligations that they are given. Similarly, different families have different structures and cultures, yet the members of a given family are expected to ignore all the differences that may exist between them and other families and stick to their values and virtues.

In addition, the family is described to be a domestic church because it is a setting where the will of God is fulfilled. Married couples are directly involved in the ongoing activities of creation through procreation followed by baptism. The church is defined to be an institution where people are continuously taught to do the will of God and obey his rulings. One of the commandments that God gave to man was to ensure continuity in the creation of children of God through procreation. While the church mainly teaches about obedience by observing and adherence to the commandments, the family, on the other hand, portrays obedience through direct engagement in the roles and duties that God assigned to man; the duty of creation. Married couples enhance continuity of creation by getting children who are then taken to the church where they get to learn obedience of the commandments.

The family also compares to a church in that it teaches morality and shapes the character of its members through continued correction. The church does not only engage in teaching moral values to its members but it also engages in ensuring that the members are counseled and corrected every time they backslide and engage in behaviors and activities that one is not supposed to engage. Some churches even punish their members by suspending them if they do not conform and observe their obligations. The family assumes a similar responsibility where the parents ensure that their children stick to the moral and ethical commitments that they are supposed to follow. Such parents continually offer their children moral support just like a church does to its members. In addition, the parents correct their children as an act of love rather than hatred by giving them punishments as a way of making sure that they maintain the right traits as instructed by God.
