I agree with the supreme court ruling of upholding Christian prayers at the start of local council meetings. This is because the content of the prayer does not try to win converts and neither is it expected to denigrate non-Christians. The ruling makes sense given that majority of the population practice Christianity. For a long time now, religion has always been used as a way of regulating people’s moral behavior hence making it an integral part of a sober society. The prayers also do not violate the interests of nonbelievers and religious minorities since the attendees of the Council meetings have the autonomy to step out of the room if they do not intend to be part of the prayer. However, I think that our society is more tolerant of some religions compared to others. It would have been difficult for the court to uphold the ruling if it was going to favor minority religions such as Buddhists and Hindus.
