Discussion
In order to embrace technology in this small business, it is vital that the company purchases at least ten computers. The decision to purchase the computers should be handled with care. The choice of whether to purchase laptops or desktops must be of great concern to the management. In this case, our small company should use a combination of both desktops and laptops but the total of the combination should not be less than ten (Toren&Toren, 2011).
The company should have seven desk tops and three laptops or there about. This is because the company will save on its capital expenditure but at the same time achieve its quest for revamping its network system. It should also be noted that the presence of the laptops will enable some staff to finish their jobs even after leaving office. The laptops will be of great importance especially if the company wants to store important data that should not be disclosed to every person in the company (Burgess, 2002).
On the other hand, it is important that the company have more desk tops than the laptops. This is because the company will be cost effective as they are cheaper as compared to the laptops. It is also noteworthy to note that the desktops can be used by the different employees in the company. Accessibility to technology in the company will greatly enhanced by the presence of desk top computers.
Effective adoption in technology in small organizations requires extensive use of both software and hardware. It is paramount that the organization management ensures that their networks is safe and secure(Toren&Toren, 2011). This necessitates the company to find for IT solutions from recognized IT companies that fully understands the company values and needs. Use of technology in the small organization must also ensure that there is proper Network Management, anti-virus protection, software updates and patches, system errors monitoring, remote support among others are the critical functions that the company’s revamping exercise must ensure are taken care of.
For smooth and effective revamping of the company’s network system, it is recommended that a wireless set up of network to be used. This is because it will help the workers in the organization to carry out their duties even while they are out of office. Wireless network system is also cost effective and has great sense of efficiency.
Small business must ensure that their network revamping process involves smooth and effective communication both within and without the organization. The company should have a unified communication system where all the stakeholders can obtain essential information in the organization. The communication systems should not only be limited to the employees but also to other stakeholders such as the consumers (Burgess, 2002).
The networking system for the small business should be greatly concerned with content filtering to ensure that only the right content is available. For instance, the IT department should ensure that the network is safeguarded and there is no access to unauthorized websites. This involves adoption of software that will help in content filtering, spam blocking and effective anti-virus.
Conclusion
Use of technology in small business should be greatly encouraged. This is because it enhances efficiency in the company which in be vital for improved profits within the organization. This is because vital and core duties in the organizationsuch as book keeping, marketing and passing of essential information in the organization is realized(Burgess, 2002). However, digitalization process in the organization should be cost-effective as well as manageable depending on the size of the organization.
