Contributions of Mother Theresa

Abstract

Mother Theresa was an outstanding individual whose work was unimaginable. She devoted herself on her mother instilled to do during her childish moments that is she should share what she has. This made her to like helping those in need regardless of religion and color. She came up with the establishment of missionary charitable organization to help the sick, incapacitated, and the unfortunate in the societies and streets, for instance, Calcutta (Duthely, 2017). She also participated in teaching Saint Mary’s High School for school before his call in 1946 where he continued in nurturing her preferable field of work (Duthely, 2017). In this connection, this paper focuses on discussing various aspects tacked by her as shown below.

Who Mother Theresa is, brief background, and her leadership experience

Mother Theresa was a nun born on 26th August 1910. She passed away on 5th September 1997 (Duthely, 2017). In the second day of her life she was taken for baptism where she was named Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (Duthely, 2017). She was the founder of the charity missionary aimed in helping the poor in1950. Her life was purely dedicated to helping those in need especially the sick together with the poor (Duthely, 2017). She is famously known as ‘Saint Teresa of Calcutta’ according to his religion, Catholic. Her saint name was officially canonized in 2016 (Duthely, 2017). In the past century, 20th, she was recognized as the greatest humanitarian ever.

Her leadership experience came as a result of the charity mission she was undertaking. For instance, her second experience was in 1946 of ‘call within a call’ which was centered in caring for the blind, disabled with the inclusion of the aged (Duthely, 2017). Also, it included the leper colony. Here, she was working in slums, Calcutta, helping the sick and the poorest individuals. This happened after she was officially released from the school she was teaching in which it is regarded as her first experience. She promised and vowed to be obedient and stuck to what her mother instilled to her when she was young that she should never eat something without sharing. In the Saint Mary’s High School for Girls where her experience kicked off was branded the name Mother due to her deeds towards everyone in the school (Duthely, 2017). By then she was teaching geography and history and volunteered herself in assisting the girls in an alleviation of the poverty via learning that is the education (Duthely, 2017). These activities earned her a Nobel Peace Prize for her aid towards humanitarian work.

Methods of Communication Used by Mother Theresa and how she; empowered followers, used power, influenced others, and dealt with crises

She conveyed her messages through face to face communication in a more substantial part of her life. Besides, she used her books to communicate what she wanted to the people, for example, in her writing of ‘life in the spirit: reflections, meditations, and prayers,’ (Duthely, 2017)  Her establishment of charity mission stations in Africa and Europe to mention was one way in which she allowed her followers. Here, she made an impact where their work was to care and provide assistance to those in need. For instance, taking of the abandoned baby in Calcutta gutters was an approach to prove his worthiness and show of how things should be done (Duthely, 2017). She cared for the baby until she grew up providing all the necessities. This was one of how she empowered her cohorts in emulation of her deeds and ways of living.

Further, her powers had minimal control to the people she was serving but her actions and the heart she had made them obey and follow what she was telling them. The powers as a leader did not help her much despite the honor and respect she was being given. Her instructions to people were kind and full of emotions. A specific example is a period she went against the abortion motion and use of contraception (Duthely, 2017). In objection to this, she branded abortion as the ‘destroyer of peace’ (Duthely, 2017). This was her stance towards the killing of the unborn to every corner of the world thereby serving as an example and a lesson thus. By so doing, she demonstrated the care to be given to the children and the unborn ones.

On the other hand, she faced a lot of criticism by the fact that children she was offering support were not entirely helped because of the absence of enough materials such as food and medicine to mention. Despite all these criticism, she did not bounce back, but instead, she went ahead in establishing more charity missionaries (Duthely, 2017). In this regard, during the time of crisis, she encouraged herself in doing what she is expected to do as a devoted woman in giving aid to the poor, sick, without leaving the disabled outside (Duthely, 2017). Through this style of work, her goals were achieved despite her demise before accomplishing some of the charity projects she had planned.

Furthermore, we are well taught that she lived for fifty years having a crisis with faith. After her call to leave the teaching, her life started to be complicated. Here, she faced loneliness, and she felt emptiness. This prompted her to say that “If I ever become a saint—I will surely be one of ‘darkness.’ I will continually be absent from heaven—to light the light of those in darkness on earth” (Duthely, 2017). She went ahead to seek for forgiveness from Jesus because of such confrontations. She dealt with this type of crisis by trusting in God and accepting the importance of her call to serve the poor (Duthely, 2017). It was amazing because of her firm stand towards what she had started despite the temptations of faith until her demise.

Mother Theresa’s legacy in religion

Her legacy was exceptional because it was a call since childhood times. First, her heritage is demonstrated when he took a baby thrown in the guts of Calcutta (Duthely, 2017). She went ahead and nurtured the baby as if it was hers (Duthely, 2017). She also voluntarily washed the lepers without fear, and she once questioned his acts by saying “when I wash the leper’s wounds, I feel I am nursing the Lord himself. Is it not a beautiful experience?” (Duthely, 2017). These deeds contributed to the establishments of the charitable missionary in Europe, Africa, and India (Duthely, 2017). It was a great work which led to valuation and recognition of all human beings thus a firm legacy to be emulated by everyone.

My Standpoint on her Effectiveness as a Communicator and long-term Contributor

From the above illustrations, I can say that she was obedience and ready to help those in need. Besides, her contributions is a driving engine to the present charitable missions as they emulate her. Therefore her effectiveness as a communicator and long-term contributor are favorable due to the impacts they have in the current world. In summation, her warm heart and willing to help others should take collective responsibility to everyone but not individuals. By doing so, poverty will be eradicated, and many of the children can have a bright future. Also, Assistance instead of criticism should be offered thus boosting the morale of the pioneers or leaders on their daily activities.
