Contemporary Art

Modern contemporary art has become problematic to understand over the years. This is a significant question that has shed light on both cognitive and art history. There could be prejudice because of critics towards the artists as they lack a position to see the classical fine art as well as imprisoning confines. Instead of viewing everything from different approaches, they make judgments basing on technical skills and beauty. Most of the successful modern art has been created from the world of imagination like films and novels with different media used. Therefore, for an artwork to be artistic rather than being crafted, it should invoke a peculiar and distressing world of imagination.

First, it is required for one to understand the meaning of contemporary art. Contemporary art is defined as the work that was created in the post-world war II. Since the genre of postmodernism, contemporary art includes subjects such as a dead shark that has been preserved in formaldehyde among others. In the modern world of arts, contemporary art does not mean sculptures and paintings of pre-modernist art in the western. In museums, there are modern paintings and post-modern arts  (Brown 27-33)

It is usual that foreign cultures are difficult to understand as compared to our own. This is because much of modern art is not about art neither communicating ideas. It is more of showing oneself to be better than other ordinary people. Some people name the contemporary artwork as things found in a recycle bin as other professionals tend to think so. This argument shows that the theories and ideas are right. It is, therefore, necessary for us to make a critical judgment to these assumptions and analyze whether they make any sense. Both installation and performance art majorly originated with the necessity to come up with intelligible work. This makes it clear as to why contemporary pieces that have been created in the postmodernist genres are of no significance to the outsiders in the art world.

Kasper was noted for being involved in dioramas that took her life away in a disturbing manner after a tragic motorcycle accident. She describes such work as particularly the idea of her death. Such behaviors are usually beyond the usual character and expression. Unlike in a film or play where the story would give a clear explanation of what caused the incident and the consequences, Kasper does not present such a context.

Another artist Janine Antoni displayed her photograph hanged in ropes that were tied to the ceiling and the bedroom of her child. In addition to this, her legs and torso passed through the roof. This sent many viewers into being amused. This expression was strange and beyond the precincts of the art world today. It brought doubt on the mental state of Antoni as it was a reasonable means of expression. Rebirth images of Italian Virgin Mercy may have inspired her strange actions. It must have been an attempt to portray the complicated reality of being a mother.

It’s essential that the presence of past contemporary work should be of importance to those who do art education. This means that it should be included in the history curriculum with examples of works in the past. It’s unfortunate that the museum departments do not have any control over the work they deal with. Secondly, the educators on art at any level should try to understand the reason as to why postmodernists and abstract are not easy to understand. The issue here could be a problem lying in the works nature and not in the innocence of the viewer. Being aware of this should be a striving factor towards maintaining a positive attitude towards such work and also works in the art world. Lastly, the educators on the art world should focus majorly on teaching past drawing skills, sculptures that are not created on abstract art on works of the postmodernist genres and also paintings.

However, difficulty in art has been perceived as the intention of the artists. Even though art expresses ideas, the fact remains that it cannot be explained as inexpression’s reason. This is due to the division between the aesthetic philosophy and the theory of art, the perception on the art nature from the point it is produced, and the time it is consumed and the attitude of the artists and their audiences

Aesthetic theories can be divided into those that are by mistake focused on the manufacturing of art from what the artist thinks is presenting well to the point of neglection by the audiences. And mistakenly by what the audience think is right to the point of neglection by the artists. Art should have a collaboration between the producer and the consumer for it to be effective. It must be relevant by fair use and also enjoyment by the audiences. Artists on their own may make the judgment on patrons by giving feedback through critiques differently. This leads to different reception by those involved in artwork, either positive or negative. They may involve these different critiques in their process of creativity (Reynolds 9-13).

When we look at the difference in language and artistic expression, we discover many things. We realize that language in any form, either verbal or written is an expression of ideas of a thinker and to those who listen or read to decipher it correctly. If a word is uttered, like Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya, an idea has been expressed.

As we make an expression of ideas in propositions, things seem to get harder and philosophically more interesting. If one attempts to express emotion to another person in a manner that is not straight forward, then this makes language being an art of expression complicated for the person to interpret, the reason being occurrence can be extremely challenging that one may not articulate, thus not understanding clearly what is being said.

The use of language in writing songs and poems can also be difficult for the audience to grasp as compared to the artist. We may perceive poetry as an act involving word usage and sentences which is art or language. It is indeed expressive though for specific purposes. If a clear understanding of poetry is from the recovery of ideas the artist is attempting to express in language art, then poetry is equally the same as other forms of art rather than explicit scientific expressions.

Commonly, success in writing poems involves writing in a manner that its meaning does not show itself but suggests different meanings. Such forms of writing poems lead to rethinking frequently and captures in the process an exciting scene that can be appreciated at different times in life (Horsfield 17-22).

Apart from expressing art in language form, it can also be revealed in nonlinguistic art such as drawing, making prints, musical form, sculpture, architectural, arranging of flowers and other parts of decorations. Facts can be expressed from language form to emotions and then to different types of arts. All these justify the existence of art communicating ideas in media instead of language. The dress code of a person is viewed as expressive as it can define the attitude of the artist and also taste or lifestyle. The use of language by artists in expression and the use of the nonlinguistic form is more exact than common language that it becomes difficult to discovery by audiences (Edwards).

There is importance in trying to interpret art concerning whatever the artist intends to express in his artwork. We may not be able to understand the intentions of an artist in every work whereas sometimes we get the ideas being represented by the artist. IN such situations, where we know the expressed opinions, it is necessary to acquire the information and build a hypothesis that is reasonable regarding the best interpretation of the artwork. We should not ignore such facts that express how the artist produce certain works and avoid intentional fallacies.

Concisely, by agreeing that art is all about expressing ideas, we also recognize that all relevant facts try to clarify the intentions of the artist and the thoughts he is trying to communicate. Today, many works in both performance and conceptual genres has been considered as foolish attempts during interpretation and understanding. Many PR, however, try to come up with work that makes discernment and have a purpose. One biggest question is why artists today continue to use anti-art forms and even come up with new ones? It’s not likely as a result of its effectiveness in conveying ideas but because it is this is what is accepted in the art
