To The Senior Management
As the employees of the company, we are currently going throughthe union organizing campaign. There is so much enthusiasm among the employees due to the importance of these elections. The view that the employees have is that a strong union would help them to handle and channel their issues in a better way. Therefore, the purpose of this memorandum is to provide a better understanding of the importance of the union from the employee’s perspective.
The impotence of the union environment
First, the employees seem to think they will benefit from a unionized environment since they would channel their concerns in an organized manner. There are several issues that employees experience in the company. However, there is always a big challenge on how to make the management to understand these issues (Kaufman & Bennett, 2017). At times it might be hard for an individual to complain about a problem because it might seem as if one is rebellious. Besides, an individual raising an issue might often lead to bad blood with the management. However, with the union, it becomes easy to channel any point without causing any disagreement. Besides, the union might have a better way to present the problems.
Secondly, the union would help to reduce the various cases of employee turnover. The idea of a body that can present any grievances that employees have makes the employee have the confidence to work in such an environment (Hirsch, 2017). The role of a union is to channel the concerns and bargain on behalf of the employees. Therefore, such a body would often guarantee the employees that all their issues would be handled in a fair way.
The demerits of the union
However, there is a need to raise the concern that at times the union might often push the company to the limit. Due to the dominant force that the union has it might be hard to convince the employees against any decision that the union has made. As much as the union might be useful in representing the employees, it might be quite limiting on the side of the employer.
The role of the management representatives
The representatives of the management have an active role to play in the campaign process. Although they are not to directly participate in the elections, their part is to facilitate the process. They should do an observatory role and allow the employees to carry out the polls. Besides, the management is not allowed to take part in the elections.
The management can only come if there is a violation of the company rules. The breach might include the use of language that is prohibited. Therefore, the administration should help in oversight.
I hope as the top management you will understand the need for the elections and how it might help to provide a better working condition for the employee. While there is the concern that it might give more power to the employees and thus make it hard for the management to carry out its role, I would mention that this is just a thought that is not well substantiated. Therefore, it is essential to allow elections to go on.
