Subject: Apology for Absenteeism and Request for Make-Up Hours
Dear Professor (Name),
I’m writing this letter to apologize for not attending your Biology lecture on Friday, 25th January 2019 without having notified you in advance. I understand that the lecture was and is still very essential for my overall grade and missing it could have dire consequences. I am sorry that I missed such an essential lecture.
I understand that my reason for being absent on Monday is based on a personal issue. However, I find it reasonable to share it with you because I look up to you as my mentor. On Thursday night, my younger brother had a heart stroke, and we had to rush to the hospital. His condition worsened, and he was kept under observation for 12 hours. Being the only siblings he has, I was to stay with my brother at the hospital as my mother went her way out to pick some stuff.
I understand that my absenteeism has made me fail to take full advantage of the enlightenment you wished to relay to me during the lecture. I was made aware by a classmate that you issued a handout concerning the next lab assignment. I’m also aware that your office hours are from 2.00 PM to 3:30 PM on Wednesday. I’m hoping to come to see you this Wednesday so that I can receive the assignment. I would also like to request for some make up hours so that I can get clarification on the material presented during the lecture.
Kindly accept my apologies, and I promise to take full responsibility to cover up the topic you taught during the lecture. I appreciate your time and understanding and look forward to meeting you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
