Dear Mr. Taylor,

We are sorry to inform you that your claim of having $150 charge due to smoking in unauthorized premises removed is not feasible. Smoking in restricted areas is not allowed, and there are several consequences that accrue in case this condition is breached.

The hotel desires to accord every customer a quality time upon their visit. As a result, there is a strict non-smoking policy for rooms that are not designated for this purpose. Every guest is informed of this policy before they commence their stay at the hotel. Several notices have been posted in each non-smoking room. Guests are usually provided handouts from the manager outlining this policy and the consequences likely to accrue in case there is a breach. It is clearly stated that “should a guest opt to disregard our nonsmoking policy, we will process a fee of $150 to the guest’s account.” There is a smoking accommodation provided for the guests that prefer to smoke.

Once again, we regret informing you that your claim cannot be accepted since you breached the nonsmoking policy in light of your knowledge about the impending consequences.
