Description
Charleston dining room is a profit-making business that is focused on customer satisfaction. It is located in South Carolina, United States. It is furnished with English and American neoclassic decorations to improve guests experience inside the dining room. The room serves as a food and beverage room and also hosts events such as the end of year dinner. The rooms include dessert service and ceramic tea rooms. It has a total of 150 employees including cooks, dining room servers, cashiers and the top management workers. The dining room regularly recruits servers who are well versed with hospitality management skills. Dining room Servers are responsible for uplifting the dining experiences for the guests and other customers. They also ensure that patrons get information that will help them select the foods and beverages ordered, convey food orders to the guests, and present order and maintain conducive dining environment. Dining room servers report directly to team supervisors or the shift heads. They work in shifts which are divided into three with each shift given eight hours starting at 8.00 am.

Biggest Challenges
As a dining room server, my biggest challenge was to memorize various orders from different guests and be able to deliver food and beverages appropriately according to the orders. Besides, standing and moving for long hours while attending the guests is very tiresome. Although I adjusted to the working conditions with time, I had anticipated a less involving job with little movements, and manageable guests. Due to my impressive performance, perseverance, and diligence, I was promoted to be the supervisor.
The Most Important Things Learned in Being a Supervisor
As a dining room supervisor, I learned the supervisory skills which are more demanding compared to my junior roles especially in the decision making and problem-solving. In my role, I gained skills such as leadership skills, interpersonal skills, time and priority management skills, conflict resolutions, and handling diversities in the workplace. My main roles were to plan, coordinate and direct activities in the dining room to ensure high-quality dining services to the guests and members. Other roles included the creation of staff schedules, solving customer complaints, ordering supplies, supervising daily operations of the dining room, and training dining room junior employees among other roles.
