Catholic is one of the oldest Christians organizations. It is a section of Christianity that is headed by the pope. The pope is at the top of the hierarchy with bishops and priests following in that order. It is prudent noting that the modern Catholic Church has strong traditions and also has more emphasis on sacraments of communion and confession. Unlike other Christians, the Catholics also put emphasis in the veneration of the saints, especially Mary, the mother of Jesus. It is worth to note the modern Catholics usually seek the intercession of the saints who acts as an intermediary between them and God (Chen & Jeung, 2012). Roman Catholicism is widespread in most parts of the world, and its head lives in Vatican, Rome.
It is imperative to note that the Catholic Church is based on traditions. This tradition is used by the followers to validate their actions. The Catholic faith is another important pillar upon which the modern Catholicism is based. It is upon such traditions and faith that the Catholic Church strongly opposes abortion and artificial means of birth control (Whitcomb, 2015). The Catholic Church believes in reciting the rosary and strong emphasis to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Prayers in the Catholic Church also involve hymns and songs that also form part of the catholic tradition.
The modern Catholic Church also has a strong emphasis on the mass. Catholics believe that while taking the Holy Communion, they are taking the body and blood of Jesus. The Holy Communion is taken seriously since the Catholics see it as the only way that they get a direct connection with God. It is worth noting that Catholics cannot celebrate Eucharist with non-catholic (Doherty, 2011). Nevertheless, Catholic Church also embraces baptism, confirmation and penance which are also strong traditions in the Catholic religion. Holiness in the Catholic Church is highly adored, and this explains why vestment is popular amongst the Catholics and Catholic churches.
