Both blogging and micro blogging are both forms of social networking. However, the two are different. Blogging allows expressing oneself with as many words as possible. How long a blog is depends with the content of the writer and the purpose of the blog. Blogs are meant for people with no time and need to get information fast. They are thus written in summary form. When large, they become more of an article and not a blog. Blogging sites are designed to give one a personal space to share information and thoughts about different things. Blogs are more of online diaries, which is a good way of sharing information and ideas.
Micro-blogs on the other hand is a combination of blogging and instant messaging. It allows one to create an instant message and post it on their profiles. The nature of this activity is that it is short and limited to a small number of characters. The social media sites such as twitter, face book, are micro blogging sites.
The major difference between blogging and micro-blogging is that in a blogging site, updates are at the discretion of the blogger while in a micro blog site, updates come in every minute. In addition, blogging sites are not as active as the micro blogging sites. A blog might appear after a long time based on the preference of the blogger. However, an update in a micro-blog can appear anytime. Again, the micro-blogging is meant to keep the user and other users updated with the current trends while blogging provides ideas and information about anything.
