During my sophomore year in high school, I was nominated to attend the Developing Tomorrow’s Professionals (DTP) program. This is a program that encompasses intelligent and gifted young men, with the objective of training, assessing and providing them necessary support services to assist in addressing various needs. The program is intended to help young men improve their partnership aspects, develop character, enhance leadership skills and identify their potential among other things. In simple terms, the program intends to shape the wellbeing of young men in different facets. Debates were among the major assessments conducted on a routine basis. Most of the topics revolved around current controversial issues taking center stage in the world news. People participated in these debates inform of teams.

This provided me an opportunity to showcase my leadership skills. I took charge of my group and was responsible for mobilizing all the members. Everyone brought their ideas to the table, and I was involved in the facilitation of the way forward. The reason I became the leader is because I was more eloquent compared to the other members. The group members would easily listen to me on various issues. I seemed to have a certain influence, which was as a result of the confidence that I exhibited. I also saw it as an opportunity to practice several leadership theories learned in class. It is always a pleasure having the ability to mobilize people towards a common objective, and deriving positive outcomes as a result.

The experience had a positive impact on my goals. I have always dreamt of being a leader in a significantly large institution. I have the desire to exert favorable morals and principles on people, so as to help them succeed in various ways. I am a huge believer of initiating dignity and commitment. This leadership experience made me realize that I can attain my objectives. It gave me the momentum and desire to carry forward in pursuit of my goals.
