The article “Hashtag Activism Isn’t a Cop-Out” was written by Noah an organizer of Ferguson protests to explore the vanity activism that reveals the narcissistic pronouncements for genuine engagement. The article tries to reveal how social media is important to the activists as the platforms help activists to condemn brutality and harassment by police. The article appeared at “The Atlantic” magazine and is published in January in the year 2015.
II. Summary

The author uses the support of people such as Ferguson who have been faced police brutality. In my thinking, I feel that the text is convincing as it reveals the crucial of social media in society. I get knowledge of how social media platforms such as Twitter can be useful to create hashtags that address issues such as police brutality in society. The author used the dialogue strategy in convincing the usefulness of social media.

V. Questioning
If I had a direct chance to talk to the author, I would ask him questions such as: is social media effective enough to cause the rapid response to such topics as police brutality? How when the ‘hashtags” are used for wrong purposes such as victimizing the suspects?

The article shows how hashtags appear when there is a significant issue in society such as lack of racial identity and how the hashtags can be turned as mainstream for the media (Lee,n.pag).

The next main point regards to how hashtags have been used in the past by influential people to cause a national sensation spark on critical issues in the society such as lack of racial identity. The text is convincing as it evaluates on how young people perceive social media based activisms. Based on this text, I gain an understanding that social media can be a useful tool for addressing emerging issues thus causing to changes in the society. The author applies the strategy of reflecting other people’s opinion about social media activism to convince the readers fully.
V. Questioning
If I had the chance to meet the author I would ask questions such as; do you feel that social media makes the young generation reluctant to adjust to changes in the society? How does social media activism affect democracy?
