Ames, Grube and Moore conducted a study about the relationship of social control mechanism at work to drinking practices for employees that work in the same industry. It is worth noting that the different employees from the industry work from different work environments. The authors try to explore the difference between employees working under a traditional U.S management and another from non traditional Japanese transparent model. The research process involved a survey from 1378 employees who were expected to answer questions related to work drinking. The research also wanted to explore the perceptions of drinking norms, alcohol related policies and the different policies employed by the different working environment.
From the survey, it is evident that the level of alcohol consumption in the two set ups is almost similar. In addition, higher work drinking rates were also evident in the Japanese nontraditional model.
