My name is ……………, and I am from Iraq. I am thrilled to be given this opportunity to talk about energy use around the world. Energy is a limited resource and a primary input for almost all activities; therefore, it is our duty to ensure that we conserve the energy. If I may ask you, isn’t it important to save energy? The benefits of saving energy is that it improves the quality of life. With energy efficient strategies, people will feel more comfortable and more productive. Another importance is that it helps to reduce pollution. Investing in energy saving modes abate the emission of greenhouse gases. Also, saving energy allows one to spend less money. For instance, when you buy energy efficient appliances and take energy efficient actions on a daily basis, you can save hundreds of dollars. Lastly, saving energy is important because of the need to protect the environment for future generation. Our dependence on fossil fuel is a problem that will impact the future generation; therefore, it is significant to enhance energy independence by using fewer energy resources. In this speech, I will first talk about my partner’s energy use before talking about mine.

First, I want to inform you about the energy use of my partner in their home country and compare it with her energy use in the USA. The kind of energy my partner uses at home is electricity and heating oil. The energy is used for heating, cooling, lighting and running appliances such as a computer, refrigerator, radio, and Television. When comparing my partner’s yearly energy usage rate between the two places, she uses less energy at home compared to when she is in the USA. She uses too much energy in the USA because of the high monthly consumption rate and lack of energy saving strategies. Precisely, her yearly energy consumption at home is approximately 2,600 kWh while in the USA, she uses 4,500 kWh. I suggest that she should start using energy efficient appliances and taking energy efficient actions such as washing clothes in cold water to reduce energy consumption. Also, with more education, she will be able to apply the knowledge and inform her family on the importance of saving energy.

Next, I will talk about my energy use. In my home country, I use electricity and natural gas. I use the energy for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, cooking and drying clothes. I also use the energy to run electric appliances. My energy usage rate at home and in the USA is almost the same. My monthly energy usage is 700 kWh. What has helped me to maintain a constant and low energy usage rate is my knowledge of energy management. However, my suggestions include buying energy efficient appliances, educate people on energy management and use smart meters to track energy consumption.

In conclusion, it is significant for residential, commercial, transport, industrial and electric power sectors to save energy because it helps to reduce pollution, saves costs, improves the quality of life and protects the future generation.
