- Racism in America has been in existence for decades. In recent times, it has become a topic for debate whether it still exists or not. The video I watched is about the history of racism. It explains how races and racism was developed through laws. It explains about different acts enacted to favor the white Americans. Most of the minority groups including the black Americans, Japanese and the Latinos had migrated to America in such of jobs or as slaves. At the very first beginning the constitution defined people as property. The whites did not want to lose their slaves. Carlos in his semi-autobiographical memoir “America is in the Heart” explains his experience as an immigrant. He describes the United States as a brutal world for immigrants to settle in. Every aspect of an immigrant’s life is tinted with violence. His book ends with no hopes of the violence against immigrants ever coming to an end.
- The video was created by Acronym TV. It was a talk show hosted by Thom Hartmann who is a talk show host and Author. It explains about the historical legislations that promoted racism by favoring the whites at the expense of the minority groups. It is urging the people to join the movement to legalize democracy.
- I found the video by searching on the internet about the history of racism. I have always been intrigued by how races and racism were formed in America. I found it sad to know that the law led to the formation of races and racism. The law which is meant to protect all was favoring some people.

Response to CHRISTIAN HISSOM
Hi Christian, very informative video you are discussing. Racism and discrimination was very alive at the time. George Takei at the age of 5 years had to undergo the painful experience of living in internment camps. He would recite the pledge to the flag of America while looking at the barbed fence outside his classroom never understanding the irony in it all. It is good to note that the internee still share the thought that the American democracy though fragile was a democracy of the people. Takiki explains how immigrants were viewed as enemies and not as citizens. I can say the video is authentic having been hosted by democracynow.org. The organization is independent and also it is a portion of another talk by Takei. My Takei describes his experience as five years old boy. It is a very sad experience which anyone ought not to have experienced. Even after leaving the camps, the living conditions out there were worse than on the camps. However, against all odds, Takei lose up to who he is today.
