(A) I added a set of wrap-up lectures this quarter focusing on desired learning objectives (DLOs). The intent of the overall structure was to provide you with readings and a substantial lecture first. Then to have you do a quiz and/or an activity, and get feedback, And then to end with a short overarching wrap-up lecture to remind you of the major learning points and sum them up succinctly. The questions include: how well did this do for what was intended and how did it work for you specifically? To what degree did it help you focus attention on the important issues of the course? How would you compare the usefulness of the initial, rapid-review lecture versus the DLO wrap-up lecture focusing on the DLOs? What would you do to improve this technique for this or other classes or did it work relatively satisfactory as is? Was the length too long, too short, or just right?
(B) I substituted some small group activities and a quiz for 4 “visual” activities: two mindmaps and two infographics. Please discuss. Questions that you may address include: to what degree did these activities enhance learning compared to other rehearsal techniques (small groups, quizzes, other)? How long did it take in comparison to other rehearsal technique? Assuming that the number of rehearsal activities would remain roughly constant (i.e., an increase in one would mean a decrease in another), would you have the same number, less, or more visual activities? Of the two types, which did you like and/or learn from more: mindmaps or infographics? Would you keep both types or move to just one type? Can you see yourself using the infographic technique in your job? What tips do you have about the ideal teaching utilization of these rehearsal exercises?
